Pragmatic play is an essential part of a child’s development and can help them develop a sense of social responsibility. It also helps them build their confidence and self-esteem. The researchers involved in this study used a traditional pretest-posttest design with eight participants aged 10 to 12. All the participants attended a school for learners with learning disabilities in eThekwini (KwaZulu-Natal). Intervention was targeted at two specific pragmatic skills: stylistic variation and requesting for clarification. The experimental group received the intervention through a role-play approach, while the control group did not receive the intervention. Both groups were then reassessed in Phase 5. This allowed the researchers to compare the effects of the two interventions.
