Check out The Saturday Creative Art Studio of Austin in the Rosedale neighborhood of Austin, Texas. Here you will find a community of people who want to tap into their creative side in a relaxing, supportive, fun environment. Drink tea and discover your inner artist. ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME (including beginners and people who think they have no talent whatsoever). If you are a student, use this time to assemble the strongest portfolio possible. If you’re a hobbyist, budding professional, or simply interested in creating a peaceful, art-practice, you are encouraged to come between 9am and noon on Saturday mornings.
The Creative Studio is unstructured, but don’t let that fool you. You can work on many things. Artist in residence, David Borden, facilitates the studio and will offer helpful hints/tips, answer all questions, conduct periodic demonstrations, and organize “drawing from observation” sessions.
No unsupervised children under the age of 14. Persons with disabilities who require assistance will need to bring their own attendant.
Dates for Summer Creative Art Studio 2018:
July 7, 14, 21, 28
August 4, 11, 18
Registration and Cost
If you registered for a 21-hour course of instruction, taught by this same instructor, it would cost $383.25. However, because we want to make the studio experience accessible to a wide variety of people, each session is only $10. If you register for the entire summer by June 30, you can get all 7 studio days for $60… a savings of $10. Because the fees go to support the Arc of the Capital Area and its work. We encourage you to look at their website, learn about their work. If so moved, you may wish to make a tax-deductible donation of $383.25 in lieu of the $10 class fee.
We keep The Saturday Creative Studio the most affordable arts experience in Austin by asking members to provide their own materials. We provide the space, the spark, and the tea.

About, David Borden, Artist in Residence
David Borden is an award-winning artist, writer, and educator. Once, long ago, he sold everything and moved to Morocco for five years. He is often described as unconventional, irreverent, and indomitable.
David is a versatile artist. He specializes in painting portraits and landscapes, but he also enjoys drawing, painting with ink, and making block prints. The teaches classes in comics and cartooning, as well. His first graphic novel, And Yet We Rise, was featured on Fox7 News. The story is about coping with the short, but profound life of his oldest daughter, who passed away just shy of her fifteenth birthday. She taught him to laugh loudly, face every day with courage, and dare to dream.
David lives with his wife and daughter in Austin, Texas. He’s the faithful pet of a very demanding cat.
